Prostate Cancer UK presents: European Golfer Traveler Daniel Gavins and young Liam Harrison | Golf Stories

As part of Sky Sports with Prostate Cancer UK, European Tour golfer Daniel Gavins and Liam Harrison talk about their relationship, both inside and outside golf, and their experiences with the disease.

Golfer Daniel Gavins and young Liam Harrison can’t be much different.

“I’m strong, you’re calm and you’re sorry,” Harrison said with a smile as he sat with Gavins. “We’re a good couple, but we’re chalk and cheese.”

The two did very well together last month with the head of a European girl at ISPS Handa World Invitational. The Gavins – who often play on the Challenge Tour – lost seven throws on the final day to win.

In addition to being Gadins’ caddy, Harrison also runs YouTube Channel Golf Mates. It has been described as a place to “fulfill your game of golf and to bring happiness and community back to golf” – and Harrison hopes it could also be a place for men to discuss prostate cancer.

“We are very interested in making people aware of prostate cancer, which is the most common cancer in men,” she says.

“The population of Golf Mates and many middle-aged men, is a very good team to discuss health, consult a consultation and chat. That’s why we must continue to discuss the fight against prostate cancer.”

As part of Sky Sports and Prostate Cancer UK game series, Harrison and Gavins hope to improve awareness of the disease and make people talk. One in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and one in four black men. “It’s crazy numbers,” Gavins says.

Gavins’ success at the ISPS Handa World Invitational looks set to secure him a European Tour card next year. He had previously finished in the top 10 of the Challenge Tour in 11 starts in 2021, but was surprised by his first victory in the European Tour.

“I can’t believe it, it will take a while for us to get in, a wonderful day,” he said later. “It’s amazing that every week on the European Tour is the place you want to be. I just have a chance to be with them and play golf.”

What about her son? While the two may be “chalk and cheese”, Gavins says Harrison is what he needs in a pocket.

“The most important thing for me is just to talk and really laugh. You have a good joke between me in the middle of the shoot.”
