Georgia Elwiss hit a hundred and became brave with the ball in the final when the Southern Vipers beat the Sunrisers once

Georgia Elwiss took over the years and then became more adventurous as the ball slammed as the Southern Vipers chased the Sunrisers once to secure a place in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

Elwiss scored 112 undefeated, plus 12 four-and-six, in the Vipers’ 309-9 at Chelmsford – then sent 7 of the nine runners-up the Sunrisers needed in the final.

The England side played the last four games with Fran Wilson (65 and 51) but the Sunrisers – who have now lost six of their matches so far – need 6 to win and finish 308-6.

Wilson had hit Tara Norris for six early in the long run to reduce the value of 12 from 10 balls but the Sunrisers only made it three times to Norris, before Elwiss conceded just three of the first five balls to end.

Elwiss’s actions proved that Wilson, Cordelia Griffith (91 out of 82) and Lissy MacLeod (79 out of 90) came in handy while the Sunrisers went down despite being 187-1 in the 33rd over and 247-2 in the 42nd.

Elwiss outscored Macleod to make it 247-3 and although Wilson kept the Sunrisers well, Elwiss had the final word as the Vipers teamed up with the top top Northerners and Central Sparks to secure a top three finish.

The final games for the teams are on Saturday, the results of which prove to be the Vipers, Diamond and Sparks who are at the top of the table and defending towards the final on September 25, with the other two meeting meeting in the final – away from September 22.
