David Luiz: Former Arsenal and Chelsea defender completes move to Brazilian club Flamengo | Football Stories


Free agent David Luiz has signed for Brazilian club Flamengo after leaving Arsenal at the end of last season.

The 34-year-old has signed a contract until December 2022 with the Rio de Janeiro player in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A.

He left Arsenal to end his contract in June after two seasons at the Emirates Stadium, where he played 73 times in all competitions.

Luiz, who started his career in youth development in Sao Paulo, played for the first time for the Brazilian team Vitoria before moving to Benfica, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, who entered into a $ 50m contract in 2014.

In a Twitter post where the fighter also wrote, Flamengo’s article wrote: “They’ve lived all over Europe, and they want a new home!

“He has won all over the world, and now he is in a place where our song says” better, better, better … “We want to welcome David Luiz to Mengao! Our nation is ready to see you in Sacred Garments!”

The defender is best remembered for his performances at Chelsea between 2011 and 2014, and from 2016 to 2019, helping the West London club win the Champions League, Europa League, Premier League and two FA Cups.

He formed a partnership with teammate Marquinhos in two of PSG’s winning titles between 2014 and 2016, and played recently under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal until 2019.

Worldwide, Luiz won 57 trophies in Brazil and was part of the 2014 World Cup, which was played at home. He retired from international service four years ago.
