There were two winners of the Annie Maunder Award for Image Innovation, both of which used their creativity in their design. One of them – “Fracture Fracture” by Leonardo Di Maggio – is a satellite imagery of Saturn, his moon, and its rings. All a photos were taken by Cassini’s vessel between 2004 and 2007. T.All in all, the images are a wonderful combination (especially from ring) and curves (from around the world). Abe black and white, them allow the viewer to look only at the geometry of the earth undisturbed by its colors.
“A wonderful dance between science and art,” said Imad Ahmed, a competition judge and adauthor of the New Crescent Society, in the Royal Observatory Greenwich statement. “We associate Saturn with its immutable rings, but the quic-cubist system, with its intricate design, provided a refreshing idea that attracted the attention of the judges.”
The other winner is “Another Day of Trouble on Jupiter” by Sergio Díaz Ruiz of Spain. The name of the image speaks for itself: Ilet’s take a closer look at the part we like oil giant, orange slurry, rust, and white powder. The image was taken by the Hubble Space Telescope on several different orbits and modified colors.
