California wants to be the first government to ban companies from listing their products for re-use unless they ensure that the products are recycled.

The reusable mark – the three “arrows following” that make up the three-dimensional canvas – is found on all sorts of items: plastic forks, decorative containers, and window shapes. However, its presence obscures an important fact: Although objects with the mark can be reused, not many are recycled.

There are no hard and fast rules governing the use of the brand and no guidelines that companies must meet to use it. But the money raised by the California state government this week could change that.

The standard, called Parliament 343, would require the CalRecycle recycling agency to assemble plastic bags and other recyclable materials throughout the region. Organizations would be legally prohibited from using the word “recyclable” or a recyclable mark for any product or non-recycling item at a rate of 75% or more. Retailers must also meet other requirements, including non-toxic chemicals such as PFAS.

“Consumers should receive accurate and useful information about how to use it at the end of the life of the goods or documents,” a the standard does.

The bill must be approved by the Senate. It then goes to the Govin Newsom desk for final approval.

Sen Sen State Ben Allen, who chairs the conference, said Instructions His experience holding the newspaper each morning inspired him to explain this. The paper comes with a three-tone plastic jacket, so he throws the bag into the recycling rod. He later learned that although plastic bags could be reused in the appropriate lab locations, they were not actually a major recycling by the government. This means that the shirt was just enough space for a change, and a support further damage to the American recovery system.

2019 study from the Consumer Brand Association shows that many U.S. consumers think that all items containing the three symbols can be reused. But in California, fewer 15% Single-use plastic is also used.

The oil industry, which produces plastics, has long recognized that recycling is not the only way to dispose of plastic waste as it usually does pushed recovery programs as an individual answer. The oil and gas industry too in preparation for a major increase The production of plastic enhances the need for its products everywhere, exacerbating the problem. The sting that opened earlier this year was He caught Exxon guests He also pointed out how the company neglected its role in the production of plastics and in the fight against plastic restrictions.

If passed, the California bill could serve as a model for other countries, helping to cut the connector which also makes the plastic stronger. Less than 10% All plastics are changed in the US every year. Last year, a Greenpeace survey he found that that although seven types of plastic are identified by the recycling mark, only two types are approved by 367 recycling centers in the country. Making it clear is one step, but

Other countries are also pursuing ways to reduce plastic waste. Lawmakers in Maine said He has made a law requiring companies to pay extra fees instead of restricting users.

“Many manufacturers of plastics are clearly using the brand to make their products look stable even when it is impossible. These companies are luring consumers into buying and using plastic products, by tricking them into thinking that they are avoiding waste by throwing them in the blue sky, “said Jenn Engstrom, California’s Public Interest Research Group chief executive and sponsor of the new technology. He said this in a statement. “Users have a right to know whether their content is recyclable or not. Doing so is essential if the market is to be marketed for other products that can be reused. ”
