CES 2022 Occurring. Here’s What to Expect

Since then with the onset of the Covid-19 epidemic in early 2020, new jokes were introduced into the “Expectations” type of journalism. What to expect from a major trade show? Who knows! Who knows if it will happen! But this is happening — right now. This is the main one: IZO, the largest annual consumer electronics retailer in Las Vegas, Nevada. And it is happening on IRL and online.

We still do not know how many technicians, vendors, and professionals are still feeling the courage to take them face-to-face, where evidence of vaccination will be needed. The last time CES took place was in person, in January 2020, about 170,000 people attended. Last year, in 2021, we met with CES completely through our photos. It wasn’t much fun, but again, there is no escaping the tiny bit of virus in a crowded casino.

When WIRED spoke to the Consumer Technology Association in mid-December, the trade organization that puts the show on hold, the CTA declined to share how many people had signed up for the event this year. And since then, several major tech companies he stopped taking them to the show, including Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Lenovo, Intel, T-Mobile, AT&T, Meta, TikTok, and Pinterest. More than 150 companies have demonstrated their presence as “digital only. ” And just two days ago, the CTA shortened the event by a day – from four to three days – due to epidemic concerns.

“What we’ve seen with trade shows is that they have a population of about 30 to 50 percent from previous years,” said Jean Foster, vice president of chief marketing officer at CTA. “When we get to the top 50 percent, we’re going to be doing well.”

What we do know is that all stage shows will be shown to those who are found remotely. A few emerging technical teams will be highlighted this year, such as NFTs. The traffic section of the show has grown significantly in recent years, with keynote speakers including GM chief Mary Barra and US Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg. Digital health will remain paramount, everyday household items will be loaded with AI, laptop manufacturers will do everything they can to make things fun, and, if you haven’t had enough screens for the past two years, then. they will being giants, demonstrators wise. Some of the things we can see through our pictures: WIRED has also decided to hide the event from a distance.

New Frontiers

One of the new teams at this year’s show is space technology. Foster claims that the current “space race” was the one that disrupted the CTA to show the team.

“The fact that there has been a lot of secrecy and interest in companies like Blue Origin and SpaceX means that there are enough companies that are interested and can come and show it,” says Foster. These exhibitors come from Sierra Space, a subsidiary of the Sierra Nevada Corporation that has been developing space planes to transport cargo to the ISS; to Zero-G, which generates individual zero-gravity trips.
