California Man Arrested Near U.S. Capitol With Bayonet and Machete in Pickup Truck


U.S. Capitol police arrested a man early Monday morning on charges of possession of a bayonet and a machete in his car which was found in a parking lot near the Capitol near the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee. Police say the man, Donald Craighead, 44, of Oceanside, California, told police he was a “security guard” and spoke in a white-collar manner. The car had several swastika, according to police photos.

This arrest is the latest in a year at the Capitol in a year that saw the January 6 riots, horrific an attack on Capitol police vehicles in April A black follower of the Nation of Islam and the struggle with A white man suffering from dementia last month who said he had a bomb in his car.

Official Washington is at the end of this week as A rally at the Capitol is scheduled for this Saturday protesting the persecution of those who did not commit violence on January 6. The conference is organized by Look Ahead America, a group led by Matt Braynard. The wall has to be built around the Capitol before the meeting.

This morning the United States Capitol police arrested a California man who had several knives in his car near the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee.

“This is a good job of the police clearly,” said Chief Tom Manger. “We appreciate the interest of the police and the cooperation that has led to their arrest.”

At midnight, the Special Operation Division Officer was on his way when he saw a Dodge Dakota truck carrying a swastika and other white painted signs, outside the DNC headquarters. The car did not have a license. Instead, an image of the American flag was placed where the brother was supposed to be. A Capitol police officer drove the car off the sidewalk at 500 Capitol Street, SW.

Police found a bayonet and a machete, which is illegal in Washington, DC, inside the vehicle.

Driver Donald Craighead, 44, of Oceanside, California, has been arrested for possession of Prohibited Weapons.

Craighead said he was a “supervisor” and began discussing white supremacy ideas and other claims about whites.

“This is a great example of the work that our officers do on a daily basis,” said Jason Bell’s Chief Operational Services Bureau. “We are very proud of these officers for their vigilance.”

The USCP Investigations Division is continuing its investigation into the suspect.

At the moment, it is not known if he intends to attend any of the upcoming demonstrations or whether he has any connection with past crimes in the area.

EXPERIENCES: Craighead men told NBC News suffering from dementia.

Craighead’s brother and father in California told NBC News that the suspect had been separated from his family for years and his loved ones did not know where he lived.

Years ago, the suspect was diagnosed with schizophrenia and responded well to medication before quitting, according to his father, also known as Donald Craighead.

“(Now) it’s a home migrant who calls me when I need food,” the affected father said. “No, he’s not well.”
