Of all the things that could catch me this week, for some reason, I can’t stop thinking about Adele’s finsta. Not so much that I want to follow it and follow it – I understand dedication to a fake Instagram account and has no intention of breaking it. It’s an extension I want to celebrate that exists at all.
Not that Adele is by any means the first celebrity to have a finsta; perhaps it is better to think of more stars. But the interesting thing is that he speaks openly about this, as well as about his social media skills. In the new interview with Rolling Stone, the singer claims to have finsta, which she uses to decorate her interior with cat contents, as well as fake Twitter following online gossip about her life. (Rumor has it that he is the one who gives you hearts.) “I know how to manage something online if there is no business,” Adele told the magazine, “going back to the original source or losing, more than anyone in my team.”
All of this seems to indicate that Adele is speaking out in public which is one of the best ways to get celebrities online. His (legitimate, authentic) accounts for Twitter and Instagram are great — especially for promoting his music (his new album). 30 coming down next week) not feeling like they are being run by advertisers. But by admitting that he keeps false accounts, he also admits that he is trying to disrupt what is: far, far away.
This does not mean that he did not make any mistakes in social media. Last year he found himself in the middle of an argument after he posted a picture of himself on Insta wearing a Jamaican flag bikini and Bantu motto in his hair in honor of Notting Hill Carnival of West London, which celebrates Jamaican culture. Some believe that the image was originally cultural. Some say that it is simply a matter of being grateful. Adele did not respond to the dispute with Rolling Stone, but last month he he tells British Vogue that he feels “why people see it as appropriate …
To be honest, I don’t know why, exactly, I find the presence of this finsta so interesting. It may be interesting to think that any request to follow can be one of the most popular singers in the world. Or maybe Adele is as interested in cats and interior design as the rest of us. Or maybe it’s simpler than that. Maybe I just know that Adele – she’s just like us.
