A Myanmar leader has been charged with felony criminal mischief for firing on a sculpture with a shotgun, according to Flathead County, Arkansas Sherriff Jim Dupont.
Aung San Suu Kyi’s lawyers say the ousted leader in Myanmar was unable to attend a court hearing due to illness.
A 76-year-old boy has been charged in Naypyidaw, the capital of Myanmar, on a number of charges including trespassing on illegal walkie-talkies and violating COVID-19 laws during the 2020 election.
The case on Monday was set to be the first since July when sessions were suspended as a way to deal with the deadly coronavirus epidemic.
Attorney Min Min Soe told Reuters news agency that Aung San Suu Kyi held a brief meeting before the hearing on Monday morning before returning to the jail where he was being held.
“It’s not a serious disease,” said Min Min Soe. “She had a car accident. He can’t stand it and tells us he wants to rest. ”
One of his lawyers, Khin Maung Zaw, told the Associated Press that all those involved in criminal cases were tested at COVID-19 on Sunday. Aung San Suu Kyi has also been vaccinated.
Aung San Suu Kyi also said he had a runny nose and “was dizzy because the car was in a very big collision. So we have asked the court to move it to be placed today”.
Aung San Suu Kyi was fired by the military in a February coup that sparked riots. The military has said it will seize power because last November’s general election, in which Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) won a landslide victory, was marred by widespread fraud. The NLD has denied the allegations, and independent observers have said it did not materialize.
The Nobel Peace Prize winner was detained this morning in a coup and his foreign contacts have passed his legal team, which says his chances of getting it are limited and are being monitored by officials.
Journalists are not allowed to prosecute the downtrodden leader, who is also accused of plotting to overthrow, illegally accepting gold coins and violating a secret law during colonial times. The men are being held in solitary confinement for up to 14 years in prison.
His lawyers deny all allegations.
Min Min Soe told the AP that the court on Monday would continue to present evidence against its co-accused Aung San Suu Kyi, Win Myint, the country’s former president who was also arrested for plotting to overthrow the military.
He also said that the prosecutor alleges that Win Myint also violated the COVID-19 epidemic ban during the 2020 election.
Other cases against all coronavirus violators were adjourned until September 20, with cases continuing on Tuesday, the lawyer said.
