The U.S. special envoy to Haiti has resigned in protest of what he called Biden’s “unethical, meaningless idea” to send thousands of Haitians.
The resignation of Daniel Foote, a former US ambassador to office in July, comes as the White House battles a group of Haitian migrants gathered in the Texas suburb of Del Rio.

In a letter of resignation on September 22, first published by US radio station PBS on Thursday, Foote said Washington’s views on Haiti were “deeply flawed” and added that his views were “ignored and ignored”.
Mr. Foote is a member of a foreign delegation that has previously been sent to Afghanistan, Iraq and several Latin American countries among others.
Ned Price, a spokesman for the state department, blamed Foote for not realizing the reasons for his resignation and for failing to “take advantage of the opportunity to explain his move during his tenure”.
“To him to say that his ideas have been ignored is a lie,” Price said in a statement, adding: “Not all ideas are good ideas.”
U.S. President Joe Biden has been accused by lawmakers of overseeing the migration crisis on the US-Mexico border. But the US president is also being criticized by many Democrats, who call his ouster “cruel and meaningless”.
Haiti met a destructive earthquake last month and is now in political trouble after the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse. The country’s economy is booming as inflation is expected to rise above 20% this year.
The Department of Homeland Security has warned that migration poses a “significant risk to the lives of migrants and the lives of migrants, and should not be tested”, adding that US borders were closed.
Foote’s resignation follows opposition from more than 50 Democrats, who wrote to the Homeland Security department on Friday urging them to end their repatriation visits.
Ayanna Pressley, one of the signatories to the letter, said: “Biden officials cannot say they are doing everything they can to help the Haitians as they continue to evict the Haitians as the island wreaks havoc on the country’s political, health and economic woes.”
Foote also criticized the US highway in Haiti, saying the US wanted to lead the future of political leaders in what he called a “collapsed country”.
“The challenges that make us believe we have to choose the winner – again – are exciting,” he wrote.
