UN human rights official complained that he did not find Xinjiang

GENEVA, Sept 13 (Reuters) – The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights complained Monday that efforts to get people to the Xinjiang region in China to investigate reports of serious violations of Muslim Uyghurs have been unsuccessful, adding that they are finalizing a report on the incident.

“I regret not being able to explain the progress of my work to the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region,” Michelle Bachelet said at the opening of the Human Rights Council on Monday in Geneva.

“In the meantime, my Office is finalizing an evaluation of the alleged violations of human rights in the region, with a view to informing others.” (Author Emma Farge; Author Andrew Cawthorne)
