Akhannouch’s RNI became the main party in the by-elections in Morocco, taking 102 of the 395 seats.
Moroccan Mohammed VI has nominated Aziz Akhannouch, of the National Rally of Moroccan Independents (RNI), as head of state and has asked him to appoint a new prime minister, according to state media.
MAP press release on Friday came after RNI independence became the largest party in the country. Wednesday Parliamentary Election, taking 102 of the 395 seats. The oldest party, the Justice and Development Party (PJD), the longest-running ruling party, lost a landslide victory, with only 13 seats.
Akhannouch, a billionaire businessman, declared the result “a triumph of democracy, its spirit and its laws”.
His party has pledged to create one million jobs in the aftermath of the coronavirus epidemic, increase health insurance for all Moroccans, increase teacher salaries and pay pensions to seniors.
