TEHRAN, Iran (AP) – Iran says the leader of the International Atomic Energy Organization is coming to the country to hold talks with Iranian officials.
Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s envoy to the IAEA, said in a tweet that Rafael Grossi was coming on Saturday, and was heading to Tehran this afternoon. He is scheduled to meet with Iran’s vice president and the head of the country’s atomic organization, Mohammad Eslami, on Sunday.
Gharibabadi also said that the two sides will present a memorandum of understanding.
This will be Grossi’s first visit to the country since the inauguration of the new President Ebrahim Raisi.
Negotiations between Iran and international authorities over the reduction of the nuclear program in Iran in exchange for sanctions have not taken place since June, and the President began work in August.
The two main issues discussed are the reversal of US sanctions imposed by former President Donald Trump’s supervisors after he left the treaty, and returned to Iran to comply with laws banning his nuclear weapons program.
