American Josh Sargent has a dream of starting Norwich City and the #USMNT Twitter celebrates

Josh Sargent’s first start at Norwich City could not have been better: The American team’s leading scorer scored two goals and helped in a 6-0 victory in the English League Cup (aka Carabao Cup) at AFC Bournemouth, which plays in the second English division.

“There is nothing wrong with having multiple goals. And the team did very well. The images were amazing. That was a good night, ”Sargent told Norwich City cameras.

He scored the fourth and sixth goals of the night in the 49th and 75th minutes – both with easy finishing inside the box – and they secured the support of his team-mate Christos Tzolis (66 minutes), who also scored two goals in the night.

The 21-year-old American moved to Norwich City on August 10 to transfer $ 11 million from German club Werder Bremen, who lost second place to Germany last season.

Sargent had already played 13 minutes for the English Premier League, but the League Cup represented his first start. His first appearance came for Liverpool in the opening game of the Premier League season and he also entered the second match against Manchester City, but both results were not possible for the Canaries at the time Sargent took part. He lost both games 8-0.

The second League Cup knockout match took place at Norwich’s home on Carrow Road and local fans stopped him as he played. The group will continue as one of 32 teams to participate in the third round of the week of September 20.

Norwich City’s next Premier League game comes home Saturday against Leicester City. Following on from the rest of the World Cup season, Sargent is expected to be one of the names of US head coach Gregg Berhalter.

USMNT will play the first three matches of the 2022 World Cup in El Salvador (Sep. 2), at home against Canada (Sep. 5) and then in Honduras (September 8). Sargent has scored five goals in 16 games for the USA in his opening career.

Born in St. Louis joined Werder Bremen of the German Bundesliga in 2018 at the age of 18. He made 10 Bundesliga appearances in his first season (2018-19), mostly on the bench, before starting the next season next season (15 starts, 13 minor appearances). He was a regular in the first XI, scoring five goals, in the last season that Bremen finished second and finished second.
